WordPress Blogging Tips: Converting Posts To PagesOn April 27, 2022 by admin
WordPress has proven to be one of the most popular blogging tools in use, however, there are so many features that go unused by most users. Most bloggers write posts each and every day and leave it at that. There are other publishing options and one of those is to publish a ‘Page’ instead of a post.
What is the difference? A post gets placed on the front page and cycled down as each new post is added. A ‘Page’ doesn’t appear on the front page of a blog and is not treated as a post. This means it is not included in category searches and is not included in archives. It also means they don’t suffer from any of the duplicate content issues that sometimes arise from archive and category listings.
Pages have their place on a blog and can, if used cleverly, actually add a lot of value. There is a concept that has been around that talks about having regular ‘Pillar’ posts. These are important well written posts that attract a lot of links. Rather than creating a pillar post – consider creating pillar pages.
Pillar pages can be written to concentrate on one keyword. If you are targeting 20 keywords then over time you would write 20 Pillar Pages. These pages could be product reviews, product descriptions, or similar. They need to be important to your business and your visitors whilst targeting the appropriate keywords.
Once your Pillar Page has been created, write a good teaser or introduction that links to the Pillar Page. Publish this as a post. If it is small enough, use another of WordPress’ little used functions, the sticky post function. This will keep the teaser post at the top of your front page until you remove the ’sticky’ label. Creating a teaser means you are getting two pieces of content for the price of one.
Be sure to include direct links to your Pillar Pages in the sidebar – this will ensure the search engines continue to find those pages. Every time you write a post that relates to that Pillar Page, use appropriate anchor text and link to it. Over time you will find your Pillar Page will start to rank quite highly and attract a lot of search visitors.
There are a lot of functions within WordPress that are not used by most bloggers. You can improve your blog and blogging experience by incorporating some of these features into your regular blogging practices.
